Product Description
Boomers, Gen-Xers, Seniors and more everyone has a dream of that long trip that they ve had in the back of their mind. If so many dream it, why do so few do it?
Authors Phil and Carol White believe it is not only fear of the unknown, but more importantly, inertia. It takes a fair amount of thinking and planning to take off for an extended period says Carol, but the rewards of working through your issues and actually getting out of town to see our country or another place, will be with you forever. Don t wait for some other time start planning now.
The White s award-winning, how-to book, Live Your Road Trip Dream is now released in its second edition after a very successful three printings of the first edition. Due to the popularity of road tripping, but not just amongst the retired set, the White s have included expanded coverage of topics of interest to the younger generation.
Today s younger generations aren t waiting until retirement to hit the road says Phil, they want to do it now if they can figure out how. With our expanded sections on sabbaticals, working on the road and road-schooling for children, we ve covered many of the topics that we get asked about frequently.
And the Whites do get asked often. As National Spokespersons for the Recreation Vehicle Industry Association, they speak at such prestigious conferences as AARP s Life@50+, and attend national conventions like The Good Sam Club s Great North American RV Rally, and talk to the press frequently as experts on road tripping. The Whites are also frequent guests on TV and radio and have been featured speakers for AAA in their home state of Oregon.
Live Your Road Trip Dream is more than an inspiring adventure, more than an information-packed how-to guide to help you turn your personal travel dream into reality it is the ultimate handbook to turn your wanderlust into action.

Editorial Reviews
Review
Road Trip. I would be hard pressed to think of any other two-word combination that evokes more dreamy smiles and wistful daydreams than these two four-letter words. Hitting the road seems to be a quintessential feature of the American experience, and no degree of economic or political uncertainty ever seems to reduce our collective yen to see what s around the next bend. From the days of piling into the old Rambler station wagon with my family to my current affinity for exploring the deserts of the southwest, the irresistible siren call of the open highway has never diminished.
As the publisher of RoadTripAmerica.com, I have been privileged to connect with thousands of road trip aficionados from all over the world as they plan their adventures in North America. I often make the point that whenever we set tire to pavement, we re on a road trip the trick is simply to notice it. But even though I like to emphasize that attitude is everything, there is still a difference between a run to the grocery store and hitting the road for an extended period. In addition to a dream, heading for the horizon takes courage, commitment and a certain fierceness of spirit.
And it takes planning. For six-and-a-half years, I lived exclusively on the road. When I began my open-ended odyssey, I would have gladly swapped ten tanks of gas for a book like Live Your Road Trip Dream. Between these covers are the tools and resources that have helped many a vision become reality. This second edition has even more of the invaluable knowledge that Phil and Carol White have so ably compiled, organized and distilled to create the finest road trip planning guide now available in print. --Mark Sedenquist, RoadTripAmerica.com
From the Publisher
The Whites decided that the time had come for them to live their dream. Once they were on their adventure, people peppered them with questions, not so much about what they were doing (everyone has their own dream!), but about how they actually made it happen. It was with the encouragement of want-to-be traveler's everywhere that this book was created.
From the Author
Traveling for a year? It is either one of your fondest dreams – or your worst nightmare! It’s something many baby boomers have long thought of doing after we are through with the family-raising stage of life and before we succumb to old age!
The difference between whether you can make it happen or whether you can’t is not how many obstacles you have, it is how badly to you want to do something totally life-changing -- totally for yourself.
When we first told people we were thinking about doing this, no one believed us, especially the kids. "Parents don't just run away for a year!" they exclaimed.
But we did.
Once we got the rhythm of being on the road, we could feel our curiosity begin to creep out of someplace deep inside us.
If you try to plan your every move, you will begin to feel like you are on a forced march to that next commitment, not on a trip of joy and exploration.
Let the child in you live again, your trip will be over too soon.
Once you have settled back into your routine, be sure to take some time to reflect on what you've accomplished. You have done something that not many people can say they've actually made happen. Congratulations!
So, would we do it again? You bet! We will never have another experience in our lifetimes as awesome and memorable as our road trip dream.
